Fall Classic Final Game Draws 51 Million Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a total 51M spectators in the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball stated this represents the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup after the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match series recorded 15.71M viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two straight years.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total American viewership was over 16 million. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09 million watchers, an 8% rise over last year and the network’s best playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen various tongues.
